2010 Chess Olympiad (Part 6)


Below are the summary results of the first round for Malaysia and other ASEAN countries:

Women's Olympiad

#14. Malaysia lost to Slovakia with [0 - 4]
#23. Vietnam won 4 - 0 against Sri Lanka
#49. Indonesia vs Kenya (4-0)
#51. Philippines vs Netherlands Antilles (4-0)
#5. Singapore had same fate with Malaysia was defeated by 4 - 0 margin by Russia 2
#44. Thailand lost to Norway [0 - 4]

Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines won convincingly four to nil against their weaker opponents. While Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand lost all games to their higher-rated opponents.


Open (Men's) Olympiad

#12. Malaysia lost to England 0.5 - 3.5
#27. Vietnam won 4 - 0 against Botswana
#67. Indonesia vs Mauritania (4-0)
#47. Philippines won 4-0 over Korea
#71. Singapore defeated Senegal 4-0
#20. Thailand lost to Georgia 0-4

IM Mas had joined the list of well-done results after he drew with his superior opponent, GM Adams of England.

IM Mok did not play against GM Nigel Short when the later was rested.

Increadible, but the first super GM defeat came in round 1! This is GM Le Quang Liem, who loses to the Botswana player Kheto Phemelo. Now someone will say, how come Botswana? We reported on the country's expectations just 5 days before the Olympiad, read for yourself

Chessdom uses information from official website which is wrong transmission. You can check chess-result for the right results.

It's very confusing. The result shows 4-0 but the games show a Black win on Board 1, featuring nice tricks (twice) on h2.

What happened in the Senegal-Singapore match in Round 1 of the open section? There are no game moves in any of the pgn's I could find (from chessbase, the week in chess, and the official site).

Senegal didn't show up. Singapore won by default
