MSSD2026 CHESS TOURNAMENT

Ada beberapa kejohanan Catur MSSD hari terakhir pada hari ini samada kategori sek men B15 dan B18 mahupun sek ren B12, malah B10 di MSSD di Wilayah Persekutuan.

Hari terakhir adalah sangat penting. It is very crucial, in English. Jika menang the two last rounds, players can be among podium winners. If other wise, it will a sad moment to the players.

As a chess coach, not as a parent anymore, Hj Saleh (GiLoCatur) just follow remotely from home. Cannot be at the mssd tournaments. Furthermore, got other works and jobs to done.

Some mssd does not allow besides guru pengiring to be near the venue anymore for lots of reasons. Hj Saleh (GiLoCatur) does not argue that. It is the prerogative of the relevant parties such as PTPSC and the host school administrators.

For Coach Saleh, there are two main aspects for chess players in the mssd chess competitions. One is the technical aspect, the other one is the non-technical aspect.

The former is about chess knowledge and theory. The more a chess player know, the higher the chance to win games. Practice or sparring we call it in chess is very important. The more you practice, the better. Most mssd participants do not have this opportunity.

There is a name for this activity that Hj Saleh (GiLoCatur) asked and did for the children during their mssd heydays.

The latter is about discipline, attitude and motivation. Lack of discipline, not only in chess but in all other sports, will stop you from being an achiever. Confirm. Regarding attitude, you need to have POSITIVE one. Having a negative one is an obstacle to be a champion or a winner.

Every athlete for sure need motivation from parents, guru and coaches. There are three types of chess coach for the info of chess parent. Choose the best and most suitable to your chess playing children and you as parents.

Many have changed in Catur MSSD nowadays compared to yesteryears esp during Coach Saleh's time. But some are still the same like separate or concurrent for both Individual and Team events, different time control compared to the state and national level.

For example, chess athletes representing their schools have to play six rounds with 30+0 per player in one day. The final round played in the second day. Coach Saleh is not complaining about it. Surely, there are reasons for that.

Playing fitness and endurance are crucial and important. You have to play at least 7 rounds in a weekend rapid event. Technical knowledge only is not enough. Non-technical aspect such as Endurance shall be tested as well ofcourse.

Thank you the parent of a mssd chess championship for giving permission sharing below photo. A nice and beautiful school chess club tshirt, dont you think?

Bravo Coach Mohamed Max and the school's chess club patrons regarding the the tshirt. Surely a nostalgic moment the photo would be in future.

HAPPY 23rd BIRTHDAY FIKRI SALEH ON 13.11.2019

Abang suku Piliang Tok Sati (pembetulan: kekabu) samo seperti ibu. Ayah pulo suku Domo.

Selamat Ulangtahun Kelahiran ke 23, Eid Milad Mubaraq dan Happy 23rd Birthday my eldest child, FIKRI BIN SALEH!

Ayah dan Ibu doakan sukses dan semua yg terbaik buat Abang! Ameen

GiLoCatur notices lots of improvements in the MSSD chess championships nowadays especially in Selangor. Many school chess teams have started to hire chess coaches. Furthermore, more and more chess parents are more supportive by spending time at the championships giving moral support to their beloved children. Several MSSDs have used DGT electronic chessboard showing Top Board games on LCD projector.

More and more school chess club teachers are taking seriously on the development, training and performance of their chess players. More and more chess parents assist their children' school chess clubs  in various ways. This parents-and-school chess clubs collaboration should continue and growing. More and more quality junior chess players need to be developed and groomed. Come on all Malaysian chess community - coaches, players, parents and teachers, let's work together to build better and bigger chess community and develop more young chess players. The keyword is CHESS DEVELOPMENT. WE LOVE CHESS, don't we?

2014 MSSD Chess Competition Fever!!!

This week many MSSD chess competitions are being held. MSSD stands for Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah Daerah in Malay. Basically, MSSD chess competition is a scholastic chess tournament at district level. After MSSD, it will be MSSS for Selangor state or MSSJ for Johor state. After state MSS, it will be MSSM which is a national level.

In 2009, MSSM chess competition was hosted by Selangor. 2010, Perlis was the host while 2011, it was Penang's turn. Terengganu became the host in 2012. Last year, the MSSM chess competition was held in Taiping, Perak. For 2014 edition, which state will become the host? To GiLoCatur's knowledge, SARAWAK will be the host.

Fikri - MSSD PP (2008)

GiLoCatur have started to be involved in MSS chess competition since 2008. Fikri took the interest in chess beginning of 2007 while he was in Year 5. As GiLoCatur recalls, he started to participate in a chess tournament in mid July 2007. While in Year 6 in 2008, Fikri represented his primary school in the MSSD Petaling Perdana chess competition. He was the second runner up (3rd place) in the Boys Under 12 category. Being among the Top 4 in the MSSD competition, Fikri represented the MSSD Petaling Perdana in the MSSS chess competition. In the competition, Fikri was among the Top 6, but he was not selected to represent Selangor in the MSSM competition after play-off selection.

Anis - MSSM 2009, Kelang, Selangor

Anis, who was in Year 4, could not be among the Top 4 in the Girls event. But she came strong in her final two years in the primary school when emerged the champion in Girls Under 12 event in the MSSD Petaling Perdana for 2009 and 2010. She was more fortunate than her elder brother when she started to represent MSS Selangor in the MSSM chess competition since 2009.

Fahim - MSSD PP (2013)

Fahim started early in chess. Therefore, he represented his school much early than his elder brother and sister. He started to participate in the MSSD chess tournament in 2010 while he was in Year 2. The following year, Fahim started to represent MSSD Petaling Perdana in the state level of MSS. Last year was his best performance in the MSS Selangor chess competition when he emerged as the champion in the Boys Under 12 category both Individual and Team events.

2014

Only Anis and Fahim will still take part in the MSSD chess competition. Anis will represent her school in MSSD Kuala Selangor in the Girls Under 18 event next Monday. While Fahim will take part in MSSD Petaling Perdana tomorrow, his final participation in the Under 12 event.

Their elder brother, Fikri, has done with MSS chess competition since he has completed his secondary school last year. Fikri had taken part in six consecutive MSSD chess competitions since his debut in 2008. He had participated in the MSSM chess competition for four consecutive years since 2010 representing two different states - Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan KL.

Below are the pictures of two MSSD chess competitions in Selangor. For information, there are ten (10) MSSDs in the state of Selangor - MSSD Sabak Bernam, MSSD Kuala Selangor, MSSD Hulu Selangor, MSSD Kuala Langat, MSSD Hulu Langat, MSSD Petaling Perdana, MSSD Petaling Utama, MSSD Sepang, MSSD Gombak and MSSD Kelang.

What A Hectic Week for GiLoCatur

This week is a very hectic one for GiLoCatur. All three of GiLoCatur's children participate in the district scholastic chess tournament called MSSD. Luckily, all of them are in one district which is PETALING PERDANA. For information, Selangor has 10 districts based on PPD which is the District Education Office.

Especially yesterday which was also GiLoCatur's birthday, GiLoCatur had to juggle between work and family matters. Furthermore, few relatives from Sumatera including an aunty are coming to visit us in Malaysia. Therefore, the birthday celebration within the family is put on hold.

The eldest son had participated in the secondary school. Alhamdulillah, he managed to win the silver medal or second place in the Under 15 Boys category. He will represent the district in the state level championship next week in Sungai Besar in Sabak Bernam district the home town of both GiLoCatur and wife.

Today is the important day for the other GiLoCatur's two kids - Anis and Fahim. The former has accumulated 5 points in the Under 12 Girls category while his younger brother has 2.5 points. Surely, as a parent, GiLoCatur is very nervous and concern about them participating in the tournament.

To those who want to get the latest updates on MSSD Petaling Perdana, please go to http://mssm2010.blogspot.com/, a dedicated blog for MSSM Chess Championship.
