GiLoCatur likes to screenshot Waze screens while driving from one destination to another destination. The reason is GiLocatur can learn more about unfamiliar or new places geographically. For info, GiLocatur sucks in Geography subject but excels in History (Sejarah) subject. But since GiLoCatur was in Science stream in high school in the mid 1980s, GiLoCatur had to take the former subject for SPM. The result was bad.
While driving from Kundasang Kiram's Village to KK International Airport going back home on last Wednesday, 31/05/2023, GiLoCatur was tricked by Waze. Obviously there are two route options. One option is via Tamparuli-Tuaran route and another one is via Ranau-Tambunan route. The former route is surely the faster one. See below photos.
Had to return back to Tamparuli-Tuaran Route after passed by Ranau town |
Two Route Options from Kundasang to KK Airport |
GiLoCatur and wife started our driving journey before 8 o'clock. GiLocatur drove on the Ranau-Tambunan route as per Waze. BUT after about half an hour driving, the Waze app directed to turn back to Kundasang. GiLoCatur was really confused. GiLocatur had to stop and asked a local person about the correct direction. Because time was precious at that time. GiLoCatur needs to reach the KK airport by 11:00AM to return the rented car and check in by noon. The boarding time was 12:20PM.
Undoubtedly GiLoCatur depends on the Waze app especially since being a Grab driver. Luckily GiLocatur had experience checking map and asking people in getting direction during the younger days. Without having sense of direction, you will end up going far away from the correct destination. GiLocatur has heard a lot of such stories by Gen Z and millennium car drivers.

From this Waze screenshot GiLoCatur can learn where the villages, towns and cities are |
No doubt either Waze or Google Map app is crucial nowadays particularly in the weekends. Most roads are jam and full with vehicles. But you also need some sense or hunch to not caught up or deceived by the app.
Luckily, GiLoCatur did not skip the famous Tamparuli bridge. Stopped for a while to take some photos at the historic "Jambatan Tamparuli".
